Reflection on habits

A significant year is coming to an end for me: my first participation at the "Art Zürich International" and the ART3f in in Mulhouse, France. These were highlights that greatly enriched me. It was wonderful to meet some of you there and to have so many inspiring conversations.

In recent weeks, I have been reflecting on the topic of habits – fitting for the end of the year, a time when we often pause, look back, and make plans for the year ahead. At first glance, habits may seem unremarkable, but they play a crucial role in shaping our lives. The beauty is: we can consciously shape our habits – and in doing so, transform ourselves to some extent.

For me, it has become an important habit this year to regularly seek out places that inspire me and to give them my full attention. Often, new works emerge from this process, such as these painting.

Through mindful observation, we not only discover ourselves and our habits but also the magic of the outside world, allowing us to deeply connect with its beauty. The poet Mary Oliver once said, “Attention is the beginning of devotion.”

To sharpen my attention, I like to occasionally leave my familiar surroundings. I am currently spending two months in Southeast Asia. Here, I am following one of my habits: daily painting. I look forward to soon sharing paintings that are created there.

In this spirit, I wish you all a reflective Advent season and a wonderful end to the year.

P.S. Here is a preliminary announcement of the exhibitions for 2025. (More will surely follow).
